After a long layoff after Covid, John is back to running!

After a long break from running following injury, COVID, and the loss of my father, I stepped away from something that had been a big part of my life. For a while, I lost the motivation to keep active at all.

But turning 60 gave me the push I needed to start again.

I began quietly, with a few 5k parkruns—tougher than I expected, but a reminder that I wasn't done yet. Since then, I've been building back steadily, putting one foot in front of the other and rediscovering my love for running.

Now, I'm setting myself a new challenge: returning to the Great North Run in 2026—my first major event since before COVID. After the last few years, this feels like a big milestone, not just physically, but personally too.

This time, I'm running for two causes close to my heart. In memory of both my parents, I'm continuing to support Alzheimer's research. And alongside that, I'm fundraising for the Newcastle Cat and Dog Shelter, where my partner Jo and I found our brilliant Husky, Halen.
